MANILA - The country's top cop twitted drug lords during a visit to a gun show in Mandaluyong City Thursday.
"Maganda! Perfect ito para sa mga drug lords!" Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa said while brandishing a gun at the 24th AFAD Defense and Sporting Arms Show.
In his speech during the opening ceremony, Dela Rosa apologized for coming late because he had to attend to the incineration of billion-pesos worth of illegal drugs at the Integrated Waste Management facility in Trece Martirez, Cavite. The drugs include a shabu haul dug up from a beach in Claveria, Cagayan.
"Medyo high pa ako ngayon," he joked.
He urged the public to be the "eyes and ears" of the PNP and help make streets safe again. He said requirements for the renewal of license to own and possess firearms (LTOP) are now down to four instead of the previous 10.
One of those requirements is a neuro-psychiatric screening for gun owners.
"Kailangan talaga dahil last year baka pagkuha mo ng LTOP, matino pa yung utak mo. Pero nagkaproblema, pag renew mo nabuang ka na. Kailangan maniguro tayo na hindi buang yung may hawak ng baril," he said.
The other requirements for renewal of LTOP are drug test, police clearance and Regional Trial Court/National Bureau of Investigation (RTC/NBI) clearance.
Dela Rosa earlier said he expects the Duterte administration to win the war on illegal drugs. He said the government now has a complete list of notorious drug lords and authorities are starting to hunt them down.
