Former President and incumbent Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Tuesday thanked President Rodrigo Duterte and the Supreme Court after the tribunal junked the plunder case against her.
In a statement, Arroyo hailed Duterte “for allowing due process to take its course totally unhampered.”
She is also grateful to the SC for putting an end to the “persecution” she claimed to have gone through over the past five years.
“With the High Tribunal rendering a final decision on this unfortunate episode, I sincerely hope that everyone will respect and recognize the truth that has been established,” Arroyo said.
The former President first thanked God for her acquittal because He allowed “justice and righteousness” to prevail “over injustice and wrongdoing.”

“First and foremost, to God Almighty be all the glory and praise,” she said.
Voting 11-4, the SC ruled to dismiss the plunder case filed against Arroyo in connection with the alleged misuse of P366-million in intelligence funds of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) due to the weak evidence presented by the prosecution.
Campaign promise
During the campaign season, Duterte said he found the evidence against Arroyo weak.
Arroyo has been under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City since 2012 in connection with the plunder case.
In light of her imminent release, Arroyo urged her supporters to “keep the faith in the justice system.”
She said she was also hopeful that no one would undergo the same ordeal she had gone through.
“It is my fervent hope that nobody else will suffer the persecution that had been levied on me through self-serving interpretation and implementation of the law. And that the disregard of truth for which I was made to suffer be dealt with accordingly at the soonest possible time,” she said.
