President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday vowed to establish a national feeding program to address "profound hunger," specifically in Mindanao where many of the country's poorest provinces are located.

Speaking before Muslims during the Mindanao Hariraya Eid'l Fit'r 2016 in Davao City, he promised to deliver aid in order to provide nutrition for children.
"I would like you to know that Cotabato... ARMM (Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) region is the highest incidents of hunger. Diyan ako magbubuhos ng lahat: tulong, pagkain, pati yung nutrition sa mga bata. Kawawa ang mga bata," Duterte said.
"Mas profound ang hunger dito, including Davao," he added.
During his term as mayor of Davao City, Duterte set nutrition programs in place, allocating a chunk of the city's budget to address the problem.
It added that one in three Filipino children suffer from malnutrition. Jessica Bartolome/KBK, GMA News
